After Polyphon disc musical boxes, products by the Symphonion company are the ones most people frequently encounter. The company were the inventors of the first commercially successful disc musical box in the 1880's and they produced machines with disc sizes from 4.5" diameter all the way up to 29" in a wide variety of case styles. The sound of a Symphonion tends to be softer than Polyphon products and a well restored and correctly set up instrument is capable of producing beautiful music.
